The English along with Wales Drawn Together for RWC 2027 Down Under

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The group draw was conducted by rugby icons including two-time World Cup winner Dan Carter.

England together with their Welsh counterparts find themselves placed in the same pool for the 2027 RWC, promising a highly-anticipated pool stage clash in the tournament Down Under. Completing the group in Group F by Tonga and the Zimbabwean Sables.

This draw echoes their infamous clash in the pool stages of the 2015 World Cup, where a Welsh win at Twickenham played a part in the hosts' shock group stage elimination.

Other Notable Group Pairings

Ireland and the Scots also share a pool once again, replicating the situation from the France 2023 tournament. On that occasion, they claimed a convincing victory, with Scotland failing to progress to the quarter-finals.

Uruguay and Portugal, both impressed as surprise packages in the last World Cup, round out that same group.

Notably, the winners of these two groups cannot meet defending champions and world number one South Africa until the final, assuming the South Africans win their own group.

Knockout Implications

Should the pools play out in line with the current global standings, further leading contenders like New Zealand and France would remain separated from both England and Ireland until the championship decider.

Under those circumstances, Los Pumas would be the other top-ranked nation on that side of the knockout draw as those northern hemisphere teams.

Hosts Draw Blockbuster Fixture

Hosts the Wallabies find themselves together with their great rivals and three-time winners New Zealand in Group A.

Australia will open the World Cup in the city of Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a marquee fixture aimed at launch the event.

Elsewhere, holders South Africa have been paired with Italy, Georgia and Romania. France are in a pool with Japan, future hosts the USA and Samoa.

Expanded Tournament for 2027

Argentina will face the Flying Fijians, Spain and Canada as the World Cup grows to twenty-four nations from the 20 who took part in France.

This edition will feature a round of 16 round for the first time in Rugby World Cup existence.

Although the victor of Pool F may be kept apart from some of the rugby's heavyweights early on, they will have to face the runner-up from Pool B – most likely the Italians – in the last 16.

A total of four of the remaining six pool winners will play a third-placed side from the initial group phase.
